The long wait is finally coming to an end for all Xiaomi enthusiasts. The Chinese smartphone company, Xiaomi is all set to launch its new generations of phones and they are starting with Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus on 7 December in China.
Company’s global spokesperson Donovan Sung tweeted about the launch from its Weibo account.
According to the rumours, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will be launched with the latest MIUI 9 out of the box. So far, leaks have suggested that the Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7inch full display and the Redmi 5 Plus will feature a 5.9-inch display.
Both the phones would be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. Although for the lower end variant, the company might end up using a Snapdragon 450 SoC.
In terms of camera, the device will feature a 12 Megapixel rear camera and a 5 Megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone will also come with MIUI 9 which will be based on Android 7.1.2.
The leaks suggest that the device will come with a Hybrid SIM slot in China. However, similar to the Redmi 5A, the Indian variant might come with a dedicated MicroSD card slot.
Coming to the bigger Redmi 5 Plus, the device will come with a bigger 4000mAH battery and stronger Snapdragon 600-series chipset.
Slashleaks also corroborates the Redmi 5 listing, with its own matching leaked renders and specifications. It adds a CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs. 13,600) price and claims the first sale will be on December 10.

Xiaomi has traditionally launched the new products in India within a couple of weeks of the China release. So, it can be expected that these phones might come to India before the end of the year. The company recently launched Redmi 5A dubbed as ‘Bharat ka smartphone’ at Rs 5,999 in India.
