In a shocking & heart-wrenching incident, a pig mauled a 20-day-old girl to death in south Delhi’s Bhati Mines. The baby girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment in hospital.
This shocking incident took place on Friday afternoon when the infant’s mother was breastfeeding her. As the main door was open, the pig managed to enter inside.
The pig caught the infant and took her away. According to police, Pushpa’s mother screamed and ran after the pig. But by then, it had eaten the head of the infant.
The locals had pelted stones on the pig to rescue the child. When the pig left the infant, the locals immediately picked her and rushed her to the AIIMS trauma centre where she succumbed to her injuries.
A call was made to the PCR around 12.13 pm and a team reached the spot. “It has been learnt that it was a pet-pig that was roaming free. A case has been registered against unknown people under IPC sections 289 and 304A,” said a police official.
Rampal, father of the toddler, said many people in Bhati Mines have kept the pigs as pet. “These pigs create ruckus in the area and are very violent.
Every day, we have to be cautious else the pig could attack us. On Friday, when Puspha’s mother was breastfeeding her, a pig entered inside and took away my daughter,” he said.
The family also claimed that the delay in the arrival of the police – and then rushing Puspha to AIIMS trauma centre – led to the death of the toddler.
“After the call was made to police, the team reached very late and then took her to the hospital that was 30 kms away. The traffic snarls delayed the journey,” they claimed.
“An investigation is being carried out for identification of the owner of the pig,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (south).
