GADCHIROLI (Maharashtra): In a shocking incident, A total of sixteen killed including 15 security personnel and a driver by Maoists using an IED Explosives on a truck carrying a team of C-60 commandos in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli on Wednesday, which is the deadliest attack in past five years.
According to sources, it is said that the attack was a revenge (counterattack) by Maoists for the killing of 40 rebels by C-60 troopers a year ago.
The attack was placed at Gadchiroli in Kurkheda area around 12.30 pm on the vehicle carrying the elite C-60 commandos of the Maharashtra Police.
According to the reports, the 15 commandos team were proceeding in a vehicle to a place of Maoist-affected districts where Maoist activities was reported for combing operations but their vehicle was stopped as the road in a forest area was reportedly blocked by a fallen trees.
While some of the occupants step down from vehicle to clear the trees, a sudden blast took place killing all the commandos including the driver.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on Twitter, stating:
“Strongly condemn the despicable attack on our security personnel in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. I salute all the brave personnel. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. My thoughts & solidarity are with the bereaved families”.
Several questions have been raised as to why the Security personnels was sent on patrol duty in a private vehicle and why the bomb proof vehicle was not used even after there were inputs that the Maoists were planning an attack.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Deepak Kesarkar and State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Rahul Gandhi, all local and National parties has also expressed their shock and condemned the attack on the security forces.
