Delhi: In a shocking & horrific incident, A man allegedly stabbed his wife and sister-in-law to death. The prime suspect in the murder is the victim’s cousin and husband of the other victim who is absconding, the police said.
The deceased have been identified as Sonia, 24, and Prem Lata, 22. Sonia’s body with over 15 stab injuries was found in the washroom of her house in Gali number 6 and her sister-in-law, Premlata, was found with her throat slit.
The screwdriver and knife used for committing the crime was found at the spot by the police.
“The victim was attacked after a quarrel broke out between her and her husband over the man’s drinking habit. The fight reached such a level that the man grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her. Neighbours heard them screaming,” said a senior officer of Timarpur police station.
When Prem Lata arrived at the scene to rescue her sister, she was also attacked with the knife and a screwdriver.
Unemployed for the last few months, Mohit lived with his wife Premlatha in Agra. His cousin, Soniya, lived with her father and brother in Wazirabad village. Since Soniya had a gallbladder surgery a few days ago, she needed someone to care for her at home.
But with her father and brother having to leave for their village in UP’s Auraiya a week ago for some work, Mohit was requested to come down to Delhi and look after her. Mohit and his wife had been staying with Soniya for the last one week.
DCP (North) Jatin Narwal said a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) has been registered and the police are looking for Mohit. “The prime suspect is on the run. It appears that he has taken the wife’s phone with him. The phone has been put on technical surveillance,” he said.
