Hyderabad: Eve Teasing is a most troubling issue today. The woman of today needs walk amidst hecklers and oglers every minute of every day which is a most pathetic situation.
The SHE team of Hyderabad Police has booked 30 men, including eight minors, for harassing women during immersion processions of Lord Ganesh idols on September 5.
Apart from arresting the accused, the SHE teams also issued warnings to many other suspects to ensure safety and security to women at public places during the last day of Ganesh immersion.
SHE team ACP D. Kavitha said, “While 100 teams were deployed for the security of women during the festival across Hyderabad, there was additional force deployed under the central zone jurisdiction of the city on immersion day.”
“Our team found these people misbehaving and harassing girls and women during the festival at several places. In one case, a youth was caught on surveillance camera touching women and girls appropriately. We arrested him and produced him before the court after booking him under 70-C of the Hyderabad City Police Act”, Kavitha said.
In the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate area, 100 SHE TEAMS are working under the direct supervision of IPS Swati Lakra, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crimes while several other police commissionerates also have similar teams working across the state.
The teams are deployed at separate places at different times of the day where cases of eve teasing are common. They identify stalkers, who are brought to the CCS Police Station and initially given counseling in front of their family members.
The police teams also prepare the accused’s activity sheet, which is kept in the central data base. The accused’s activities are monitored on a daily basis. The teams also take legal action as per the provisions of the law, apart from taking stringent action under the Nirbhaya Act, in case a person keeps committing the offence repeatedly.
